Bude Area Guide

Love where you live

Summerleaze Beach, Bude, Cornwall

Why move to Bude?

The most easterly town in the North-East of Cornwall is the famous and picturesque seaside resort town of Bude. Bude is regularly voted the best UK coastal resort in the British Travel Awards and, with all it has to offer, it is easy to see why.

Bude is rich in history, once-thriving as a harbour and worldwide trade area before being reinvented in Victorian times as a holiday resort. A popular tourist destination, Bude is famous for its idyllic beaches and unspoilt countryside.

Bude’s population of approximately 10,000 benefits from a strong community spirit. With Bude being relatively isolated, you don’t go through Bude to get anywhere so visiting is always for a reason, the residents are treated to a sense of belonging and independence and even mingle with the tourists during the busy season. While tourism is strong, farming is also prominent around Bude.

Facing the Atlantic Ocean, there is no doubt that the stunning sandy beaches are a huge plus for the town. Bude has many award-winning beaches including Widemouth Bay which has a Blue Flag and Seaside Award and Summerleaze Beach and Crooklets Beach, both with Seaside Awards. In fact, Bude is home to one of just seven Blue Flag Beaches and three of 13 Seaside Award Beaches in Cornwall.

Bude’s coastline is full of interesting geology and is bursting with wildlife. The coast even incorporates a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The thriving high street has very few multiples and national chains. In fact, it is mostly made up of independent stores and cafes and even boasts a yoga store and its own micro-pub and brewery.

Bude is renowned for its stunning climate with the area once recorded as the sunniest place in the UK in the summer of 2013.

With its mix of famous beaches and surf spots, canals, golf course, open air sea pool and walks there is something for everyone, and it makes Bude a unique and simply wonderful place to live.

Bude Office Manager Mark Kivell adds, “Bude is a fantastic place to live. Whether you have a family, are a couple or are looking to retire, there is a property for everyone in this safe and friendly town.”
