Holsworthy Countryside, Devon

Why move to Holsworthy?

Located in the picturesque countryside, and surrounded by the rolling hills and wooded valleys of North Devon between Exmoor and Dartmoor, is the pretty and ancient market town of Holsworthy.

Holsworthy is known for its vibrant and welcoming community atmosphere. Annual events like the famous St Peters Fair perfectly demonstrate the superb spirit of the people of this remarkable and historic town, which is loved by residents and visitors alike.

Holsworthy is perfectly located, close to the miles of sandy beaches and stunning coastline at Bude, and a mere 40 miles in one direction to the city of Exeter, and 40 miles in another to the city of Plymouth. Holsworthy also serves as the perfect base for visiting the various National Parks including Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin in neighbouring Cornwall.

With Holsworthy you get the best of both worlds, the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, and easy access to the major attractions of Devon and Cornwall. Walking, cycling and riding trails are all on your doorstep and there are South West Lakes Trust venues nearby for sailing, kayaking and windsurfing, along with a number of coarse or trout fishing destinations.

Famous for being at the centre of Ruby Country (named after the ruby red cattle from the area) and for its sustainable farming methods, Holsworthy has rightly claimed its place on the agricultural map. Local produce is widely available from regular farmers markets. Holsworthy maintains its traditional market town roots with its thriving cattle market and popular pannier market which takes place in the square every Wednesday.

Holsworthy is a fantastic place to live if you are fond of sport or the arts. Holsworthy has an amateur football team, cricket club, bowling club, many surrounding golf clubs and a nearby archery centre. An Arts Festival takes place in the nearby village of Bradworthy where you can also visit West Gallery. Holsworthy has a special place in the hearts of Kivells. In 1885 the auctioneering and land agency firm of Kivell & Harris was established by William Thomas Kivell and Charles Harris. William Kivell went on to grow the business to what it is today, with a state-of-the-art agricultural centre in Holsworthy holding regular livestock markets and machinery auctions.

Holsworthy Office Manager Mark Kivell adds, “Holsworthy is a truly special place to live in Devon, perfectly located within the peaceful countryside, but close to the major cities of Devon and Cornwall. Due to the rural nature of the property market in Holsworthy it is vital to choose the right agent to market your property. Kivells have called Holsworthy home since 1885 and know the local market intimately.”
